Visiting NRG Stadium as an Away Fan: The Complete Guide

NRG Stadium · 1 NRG Pkwy, Houston, Texas
★ A roofed, air-conditioned escape from Houston heat

NRG Stadium anchors NRG Park south of downtown Houston, a retractable-roof stadium with air conditioning that beats the Texas heat and humidity. Home to the Houston Texans, it has light-rail access and big tailgate lots. Here's how to do a Texans road trip right.

Getting There

Fly into Bush Intercontinental (IAH) or Hobby (HOU) — both connect to the city, with Hobby a bit closer.

NRG Park is served by the METRORail Red Line, so transit works, though Houston is a driving city — plan for traffic if you drive.

Where to Stay

Stay in downtown Houston or the Museum District/Medical Center area and take the light rail or drive over — NRG is a short trip south.

Downtown gives you the city's food and nightlife; the Museum District puts you close to a rail stop toward NRG.

Parking & When to Arrive

There are big lots around NRG Park and tailgating is a scene, so prepaid parking is smart. Rideshare and light rail work too.

Arrive early to tailgate in the big lots — and enjoy the AC once inside, because with the roof closed the stadium is a cool refuge from the Houston heat.

Where Visiting Fans Sit

It's a modern stadium with excellent sightlines and no obstructed views, and the roof and AC keep every seat comfortable when it's brutal outside.

Lower levels are pricier while the upper deck is good value. Texans crowds are easygoing and fine for visiting fans.

Food & What to Bring

Go big on Texas barbecue and Tex-Mex alongside the stadium standards — Houston's food scene shows up.

Check the bag policy, as the NFL clear-bag rule applies. The roof handles the heat inside, but hydrate for the Houston heat and humidity around your time outdoors.

The Pregame Scene

The tailgate in the NRG Park lots is the main pregame. For bars and food, downtown Houston, Midtown, or EaDo are a short drive or rail hop away.

Grab a meal in the city, then head to NRG for the tailgate and kickoff.

Insider Tips

Lean on the roof and AC — arrive early, tailgate, then enjoy being cool. Take the light rail if you'd rather skip driving.

Stay downtown, hydrate for the heat, and get some Texas barbecue. A comfortable, easy away stadium.
