MLB Bag Policies at All 30 Ballparks, Compared

Twenty-five of the 30 MLB ballparks cap bags at one of just two sizes — but that's where the agreement ends. Eighteen parks (60%) offer no bag storage at all, and whether your bag has to be clear splits the league almost evenly (13 require it, 15 don't). One park's rules tell you nothing about the next — which is exactly why a single "MLB bag policy" doesn't exist in practice.

The storage lottery

This is the row that decides your day. If you show up with a bag that doesn't comply, what happens next is wildly unequal — and mostly bad:

Free on-site (2): Coors Field, Target Field · Paid on-site (8): Chase, loanDepot, Nationals, Citizens Bank, Truist, Oracle, Petco, Camden · Third-party nearby (2): Fenway, Rate Field · None at all (18): everywhere else.

At 18 of 30 parks there is nowhere to put a non-compliant bag — your only options are to walk it back to your car or throw it away. Only two parks (Coors and Target Field) store it for free. So the single most useful thing to check before any trip isn't the size limit — it's whether the park will hold your bag, because most won't.

The clear-bag split

There is no league-wide clear-bag rule. Thirteen parks require your full-size bag to be clear (a small non-clear clutch is the usual exception); fifteen don't — a plain soft-sided bag is fine. Two more (Comerica, Truist) have effectively gone bagless, allowing little beyond a medical or diaper bag.

The practical trap: a clear tote that sails into Dodger Stadium, Petco, or Camden Yards is unnecessary at Wrigley, Coors, or Oracle — and a normal soft bag that's fine at those parks will be turned away at the clear-bag ones. If you want one bag that works almost everywhere, carry a small non-clear clutch around 5×7; it fits the exception at nearly every park on the list.

Two sizes, everything else varies

The sizes themselves aren't the chaos. Twenty-five of the 30 parks land on one of two footprints: a 16×16×8 bag (a ~256 in² face, ~14 parks) or a roughly 12×12 / 12×6×12 bag (a ~144 in² face, ~11 parks). The outliers are Angel Stadium (a slightly larger clear bag), Busch Stadium (10×8×10), and the two effectively-bagless parks, Comerica and Truist — where the biggest thing you can bring is a ~4×6 clutch, more than 10× smaller than a 16×16 bag.

So the size is largely predictable. What isn't: bolt the clear-bag requirement and the storage situation on top, and the combinations are all over the map. Check your specific park.

What to do about it

Check your specific park before you go — the rules genuinely don't carry over. If you want one bag that works almost everywhere, a small non-clear clutch (~5×7) clears the exception at nearly every park. And plan as if there's no bag storage, because at 60% of parks there isn't — anything that won't pass the gate has to go back to your car.
